Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Post Graduate Ayurvedic College Paprola is the only college of this type in the state of Himachal Pradesh.The college apart from serving as premier institute of training of Ayurvedic undergraduates and post-graduate students, is also engaged in promotion and propagation of Ayurvedic system of Medicine.

Rajiv Gandhi Govt. Post Graduate Ayurvedic College and Hospital, Paprola is the only Government College of Himachal Pradesh working in the field of Ayurveda education. It is located at Paprola town in Tehsil Baijnath of District Kangra on National Highway 154. Its nearest railway station is Baijnath Paprola and the nearest airport is located at Gaggal (Dharamshala) at a distance of about 60km. The world famous Baijnath temple is located at a distance of 2 km from here. The college was established as a private college in the year 1972 by the name of Him Ayurvedic College as a private institution under the supervision of Vaid Hakim Parishad of Himachal Pradesh. The college was undertaken by the Govt of H.P in the year 1978. The college has a beautiful campus surrounded by delightful hills with a wide variety of medicinal herbs. Students from all over India and abroad get enrolled for BAMS and M. D/M. S (Ayu) courses in R.G.Govt P.G Ayurvedic College & Hospital Paprola, H.P. The college has a 215 bedded hospital attached to it which caters to the health care needs of not only the people of Baijnath Paprola but also the patients coming from far flung areas of Himachal Pradesh.
COURSES OFFERED BY THE COLLEGE
1. Five and a half year long Ayurvedic Bachelor’s level (BAMS) course.
2. The three yearlong Postgraduate courses in (M.D./M.S. Ayurveda) in all the fourteen specialties of Ayurveda.
3. One-year Ayurvedic Spa Therapist Training Program under skill development program.
4. Short Term Skill Development courses viz. Kshar Karma Technician, Panchkarma Paricharak and Yoga Therapist for Wellness are conducted under Champion Service Sector Scheme sponsored by the Ministry of Ayush, Govt of India.
5. Reorientation program for the teachers of Ayurveda.
6. One Year house job in various Clinical departments for Ayurvedic graduates.
7. CME Program at state and interstate level for Ayurvedic practitioners.
COLLEGE ACHIEVEMENTS (2024-25)
1.Two clinical research projects sponsored by CCRAS, Ministry of Ayush, Govt. Of India, New Delhi (One for iron deficiency Anemia and other for Oesteoarthritis) under Smart Scheme of the C.C.R.A.S New Delhi are being run in the college.
2.National Programme for Prevention and management of osteoarthritis and other Musculoskeletal disorders: A national public health programme under the National Ayush Mission was sanctioned for the state of H.P and R.G.G.P.G Ayurvedic College and Hospital Paprola has been designated as the nodal centre for this programme.
3.Another public health programme i.e Vayo Mitra which has been sanctioned for two blocks i.e Baijnath and Panchrukhi of Distt. Kangra is being run by the college. This programme will target the geriatric population of these two blocks and address their health-related issues. The programme is also being run under the state nodal center of National Programme for prevention and management of O. A and other musculoskeletal disorders at R.G.Govt P.G Ayurvedic College & Hospital Paprola, H.P.
4.A one day 52nd HIMCON National Seminar was organized in the college on 06/04/2024.
5.In the month of October PG Guide Training Programme was organized by the NCISM in college for updating the knowledge of college faculty.
6.Cricket pitch is added in the playground of the college.
7.As a part of mass campaign to eliminate TB various faculty members and P.G. students joined as Nikshaya Mitra to support TB patients. Nutritional kits were also distributed along with vocational support.
8.A Panchkarma Wellness centre was inaugurated in the month of February 2025 and is fully functional.
9.Parasurgical procedure training for AMOs was conducted in the month of Nov. and Dec2024 in batches.
10.The Department of Kaumarbhritya established Kashyap rehabilitation and development centre to impart special care to children with delayed milestones.
11.A training programme for faculty and P.G. scholars about new NTEP guidelines imparting knowledge about recent updates in Tuberculosis, its preventive treatment and PM TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan was conduted on 27/03/25 in the college auditorium.
12.Keeping in view increasing menace of substance abuse, a guest lecture by DSP Baijnath was organized for U.G. and P.G. students in the college auditorium on 29th March 2025.
13.QCI in collaboration with Medical Assessment and Rating Board for Indian system of Medicine awarded B certificate to the institution for acedemic Session 24-25. The institution proudy stand among top 10 goverment institution of the country.
The college is premier institute of the state in field of Ayurveda education and research but still there is a lot of scope to grow. The important future plans for the college are as follows:
1.To upgrade the status of college to All India Institute of Ayurveda.
2.Establishing Blood Bank or at least a blood storage unit facility in the Hospital.
3.To become a premier research institute by developing an independent research unit having facility for animal house and labs.
Apart from imparting training & education to students of Under Graduate and Post Graduate courses, the college is working to promote and popularize the practice of Ayurvedic system of medicine. Main aims and goals of the college are:
1. Promoting the growth and development of Ayurveda as a health care system in the state of H.P.
2. To create competent Ayurveda doctors having profound knowledge of Ashtanga Ayurveda along with the contemporary advances in the field of Ayurveda supplemented with knowledge of scientific and technological advances in modern science and technology along with extensive practical training, as efficient physicians and surgeons for the health care services.
3. To conduct research so as to provide evidence base to the Ayurveda practices/Medicine in post graduate training.
4. Providing health care to patients by experts in the College /Hospital.
5. Provide Preventive, Promotive and Curative health care services to the underprivileged section of society by organizing medical camps at their door step.
6. To implement National health programs and various health related schemes in the college hospital so as to ensure availability of healthcare benefits to the needy people of the state.
7. To work for capacity building of the Ayurveda Medical officers, Private Practitioners of Ayurveda, Teachers of Ayurveda Colleges and paramedical staff of the Ayush Vibhag.
8. Provide information on modern research in Ayurveda and medicines by conducting continuous training programme to Ayurvedic teachers and physicians under the training programme.
9. Promotion and dissemination of Ayurveda education and research work from time to time through research papers, books, symposiums, workshops and camps etc.
10. Using futuristic techniques like telemedicine to make Ayurveda approachable at doorstep of everyone.
11. Promoting Panchkarma so that medical tourism can become regular feature of the institution.
